Application Checklist
Before applying to the AFA, please make sure you have met the following requirements:
-You are currently in 9th, 10th, or 11th grade
-You are currently taking or have already taken a level 1 arts course (preferable in your focus area) or have received a waiver from FCPS
-You are maintaining at least a 2.5 GPA
-You have read and understand the audition requirements for your desired focus area
-Your digital submissions ready to submit at the end of the form. (use this link to view the AFA Audition Packet and learn more about digital submissions:

Once your application is submitted and your references have been received, we will review a copy of your transcript along with your digital submissions. If your applications meets our expectations, we will contact you to schedule an in person interview/audition or portfolio review.
If you are not selected for an in person interview, you will receive feedback from our staff to help you better prepare for another audition should you wish to try again in the future.

Academy for the Fine Arts Application
Please fill out the info below to complete your AFA application. You will be asked for contact info for TWO references. After submitting your app, we will reach out to those references and send them a digital form to fill out. No letters of recommendation are needed.

In order to process your application, we need two personal references. References should be people who have worked with you in the arts, other teachers who know you well, or even employers. Please do not use parents or family members. References will be asked about your character, artistic ability, and performance.

We will review your complete application and if it meets our expectations, we will contact you to schedule an in person audition or portfolio review.

Once your application is submitted and your references have been received, we will review a copy of your transcript along with your digital submissions. If your application meets our expectations, we will contact you to schedule an in person interview/audition or portfolio review. Auditions/reviews will take place in February. We have a separate date in April for art applicants who need more time to put together their portfolios due to taking a course in the spring.
Reach out to your references and let them know we will be sending them a form. They do not need to send a separate letter of recommendation.
